Philips release new wireless camera based on Russian tech

Cameras connected to the cloud have uses in all sorts of spheres - they allow parents to keep an eye on their children, managers to monitor their employees and homeowners to keep watch over their property. 

As the sector grows, one Russian company is very well placed to take advantage. Ivideon’s data centres around the world, combined with software that supports iOS, Android, Windows, MacOS and Linux, allow it to provide a high quality service to clients wanting to connect their cameras to the cloud. 

Not only is the service popular with private clients, it has also caught the attention of major electronics companies. Samsung started selling cameras featuring Ivideon’s software in Russia and Eastern Europe some time ago, and now Dutch company Philips has released a new cloud-camera that uses Nvideon’s solution.

Vladimir Eremeev, Ivideon’s founder and managing partner, explained that the partnership was actually initiated by Philips.

“In summer 2014 Ivideon was already fully operational in every continent, and out Google Play and App Store apps were among the top ranked in the sector. In contrast, Philips had only received negative reviews of their previous providers of cloud software. When Philips approached us, we were glad to help them fully integrate their new products with our cloud system.”

The company has made rapid progress since it was founded in 2010 by Vladimir Eremeev and Andrey Yudnikovy. At first the project was financed by its founders, who sold their flats and cars to do so. Some time later a private investor also got involved, but their identity and investment has not been disclosed. 

It operates according to a freemium model - users can link up two cameras for free, but must pay a monthly fee for anything beyond that. 

Eremeev is convinced that the business side of the project is just as important as the tech one:

“One of our team’s biggest achievements was not so much that we managed to create a service that allows people to connect their cameras to the web, but that we were able to turn it into a business. Unlike many internet projects we paid close attention to the market and our own financial capabilities from the start. Although our service is free, it didn’t become a ‘bubble’ that loses money every year. Instead, within a year and a half our company was already making an operational profit.”

The company plans to establish a truly global presence by attracting more partners from the tech industry, opening new offices, developing products for the Asian market and extending its network of data centres. 

In the near future Texet and Lexand will also release cameras integrated with Ivideon’s service.
