FinTech Russia 2014 - how FinTech startups can make money

0 14 May 2014

For a long time at RusBase we have wanted to organise our own events. We have been monitoring the main trends driving the local venture market and decided that our first events should focus on the fastest growing and newest startup sectors.

Our first event, “EdTech Russia 2014 - How to Monetise Online Education”, was organised in partnership with BeSmart in March of this year.

We are pleased to announce that on 5th June we will be holding our next event - FinTech Russia - a conference for finance tech sector projects, experts and investors. Our main partners are the StartupBootCamp FinTech Accelerator and SBT Venture, and you can find more information on our site FinTechRussia.ru

The focus, as with our edutech event, will be on monetisation. We will look at the existing business models of fintech startups and consider how much they earn and how they do it. If they aren’t earning yet, we’ll look at when and how they will start to do so.

You can register on the site from 12th May. Founders of FinTech startups can get a PromoCode for free entry by writing to ceo@rusbase.com or olga@rusbase.vc.

What counts as FinTech?

  • Financial services (payment systems, online banks, virtual currencies).
  • Finance sector services (personal finance management, coupon and loyalty program projects, corporate finance, B2B finance management services).
  • Tech (Biometrics, Big Data analysis for finance, scoring systems, anti-fraud, Peer2Peer solutions, mobile acquiring).

The FinTech Sector

The FinTech industry worldwide has grown fourfold in the past few years, from $928 million in 2008 to $3 billion in 2013. In Russia the sector is now catching up - according PwC’s MoneyTree report it increased five-fold in 2013, from $11.8 million in 2012 to more than $50 million.

According to fintech-oriented venture fund Life.SREDA, the biggest Russian fintech investments in 2013 were:

  • Payment service provider QIWI's IPO on the Nasdaq exchange, which valued the company at $884 million.
  • A $57 million investment by Yuri Milner’s DST fund and Coatue Management in p2p credit service LendingClub.
  • Runa Capital’s $8 million investment in mobile bank UBank.ru.
  • $7 million invested in LifePAD by Life.SREDA.

Pitch Day - selection for the London-based StartupBootCamp FinTech Accelerator

StartupBootCamp, a RusBase partner, is currently selecting projects for its 3-month FinTech Accelerator, which starts in London in July. The selectors are holding pitch days around the world as they look for 10 projects to take part in the program. Each participant will receive €15,000 for 8% of their company, mentor support and access to a broad range of partners.

The Moscow pitch day will be held at FinTech Russia 2014. All applications will be considered by the selection panel, but only 5 projects will be able to present at the conference. These presentations will take place in private between 14:45 and 17:00.You can submit your application here

Public Elevator Pitch for Russian investors (sponsored by RVC)

Each startup will be given 3 minutes to present their project to conference guests and two minutes to take questions.

Any FinTech project currently seeding partners or investors is welcome to apply to take part here

Inclusion in the database of Russian FinTech startups

We want the site FinTechRussia.ru to be more than just a site about the conference. We intend it to become a map of the sector including all the major players. If you are connected in any way to FinTech in Russia, write to us and we will add your profile to the site.

Adding your project to the site is not the same as registering for the event.
